Wood slice coasters {best coasters}

This project started while I was home for Christmas 2011. Yep, it’s called pro-craft-tination. (get it….procrastination. haha.) On a walk, my mom and I found a log and drug it home… I begged my little brother to cut into slices for me. At the time, I thought I was going to use them to make wall art. Steve cut my branch into thin slices with a chop saw, and I took my pieces back to Austin. A move and a marriage later,  the slices re-appeared while I was in the middle of manaicing the living room. I painted the coasters the same time I painted the canvases for the DIY felt wall art project. It’s a fun, simple project that can jazz up a room in no time. And the coasters work great too (you know, don’t stick to glasses)!

4. I used the sandpaper in-between the 2 coats of paint. Probably not necessary, but it made them extra smooth.

5. I painted a second coat of paint on all of my coasters.

When there not being used, they’re fun colorful polka dots on your living room tables. We kind of love them and use them everyday. Why in the world do coasters from the store come in sets of 4? I need more than 4 coasters and only 2 people live in our house…. what’s your coaster situation?

Comments

  1. I have a TON of coasters sitting around! Mine however are anything and everything from barbie to recycled tires!! The wood circles are a REALLY awesome idea!

  2. Hahaha pro-craft-tination. I love it! I excel at that. For example – I started making a cross stitch bib to give to my godson when he was born. I just finished it in January. He turned eight in August. Needless to say…I’m going to give it to another lucky baby. ;)

  3. Ok…that is incredibly clever!!! Perhaps I need to purchase a saw!! :) LOVE the colors too!!
