Halloween crafts {keyboard pumpkin}

It’s day 3 of my Halloween crafting madness! Today’s craft is a true C.R.A.F.T. made from a recycled keyboard. Awhile back, Andy helped out neighbor upgrade her computer and we were also in charge of recycling the old one. We took everything but the keyboard to Best Buy for recycling. FYI: Best Buy  recycles all electronics, regardless of where you bought them (here’s a detailed link for Best Buy recycling info). I picked all the keys off of the keyboard with a flat head screw driver, and stashed them in my craft closet while I waited for inspiration to strike. Martha’s box of craft goodies inspired the painting of the keys and a pumpkin eventually evolved.

Martha Stewart craft paint made painting the keys an easy decision, but I could’t deicde what to do with them… here are some of the (not so cute) first attempts.

I ended up deciding to combine the pumpkin and the word spooky into a single masterpiece (or at least I think so!). I used a hot glue gun to glue the individual keys to a piece of white card stock, and then taped the card stock on the glass of  an empty frame. A super simple, recycled halloween craft. Here’s a close up of the spooky because, clearly this pumpkin is very spooky.

How is your Halloween crafting going? Have you ever done a recycled keyboard project? I’ve got more keys, I need some more ideas! Have you ever used Best Buy to recycle electronics? Where else can you recycle electronics? I’d love to hear…

  1. So sadly the thing the jumped out at me in this pic is the book ‘The Joy of Signing” Do you know any? or did you pick the book for its orange color? Either answer is fine but I’m and interpreter so I was courious.
