Wall Tour

We’ve been on a hanging frenzy around here. Most of the pictures were hung with 3M picture hanger strips, but the big ones (over 12 lbs) were done with a good ol’ picture hanger, nail, and wire.
I love canvases for 3 reasons:
  1. You can re paint and re paint them a bazillion times
  2. They are super light and easy to hang
  3. You don’t need a frame

I hung the re-painted ikat canvas with one nail. The other 3 pictures used to hang on our shelves above the floating desk in our old house. I used 3M strips for those.

The wall above the kitchen table was trickier. I originally thought that is where the ikat canvas would go, but the wall ate it up. I played with lots of layouts for above the kitchen table…
The duck was too small and dark…

The apple pie needed to go in the kitchen…

The embroidered monkeys still looked too small…
This one was just right…
We used wire and picture hangers for these…
We got the bar for free. (Remember how Andy collected lots of free furniture while he was living in Florida alone) It’s not my favorite thing in the world, the doors don’t close all of the way, but it serves a purpose and stores all things bar related. Can’t complain about free :) The metal pieces used to be our baclony in Austin, and the mirror was in the stairway. (Chairs are going to get a makeover soon :)
The gallery wall is coming together. I think I’ve finally decided on no stripes. I’ve added a few more frames, and I’m still on the hunt for a few more…
I’ve had a few people ask me about the reclaimed wood piece on the far right. I bought it a few years ago from Grandin Road. It is super heavy, but I love it. My mom has one too. I think she is actually the one who found the piece and convinced to buy it.

We re- purposed the old Good Will craft shelves as a spice holder in the kitchen. I looked into spice racks, but realized we have way too many spices for any regular rack!  I moved the apple pie cross stitch to the kitchen were it belonged :) And so far, we love having the cutting boards handy on top of the dresser.

The entry way got a bit snazzier this past week too… This room needs a lot of help, but at least this is a start. Currently it is the catch all for trash that needs to be taken ot, reusable grocery bags, shoes, purses, sunglasses, and more shoes. I love looking at them right when I walk in the door. The thumbprints (used to be in the MP room) scream Andy and Jamie, not to mention they really are our thumbprints :)

Have you been hanging any pictures on the wall? What do you do with your spices? Do you have a spice rack that can hold all of your spices? Do you have any small entry way storage solutions?

  1. Everything is looking great! Hope you're enjoying your time in Florida (I'm near Orlando)! I have a small repurposed spice rack from Goodwill that holds maybe 10 of my spices, and the rest are in the cabinet above. I keep the spice rack next to my stove, and it's filled with the ones I use the most.

  2. I really love the gallery wall.

And I really miss that Fiesta brand fajita seasoning. That stuff is so good. I grew up with. They don't carry it where I live and I'm hesitant to buy $20 worth on amazon.

  3. I have been hanging up some art myself. You gave me a couple of great ideas and I absolutely looove ur dining area:) I am rooster crazy and my dining and kitchen area has been turned into a "chicken House" as my 5 year old says. I had a calendar of roosters so i separated the pics matted them in black card stock and hung them over my dining table I love them.:)
