Any one of these ideas would be fun for a simple gathering at home or you could combine a few ideas for a bigger event. My friend, Katy, hosts dinner at her house and she always does a “make your own_______” theme. I love it! We’ve done nachos, fajitas, and pizza so far :) Do you have a make your own ________ buffet? What are other good meals to do this with?

Psst… Here are 25 unique guest book ideas to make your par-tay even more special!

A Book & Cookie Swap (ABC’s Party)

I’ve got lots of books about all kinds of random stuff… Being Vegan (tried that in college), Growing Bonsai (tried that too. I liked pruning a little too much!), lots of left over college books, and a few good fiction novels that I just won’t likely read again. Half Price Books is my friend and because of this little obsession, I have quite a collection. I decided to host a few girls and get rid of some of my books! It seemed perfect: books and cookies and my friends= ABC’s Party

I sent this in an email… you could be fancy and print it out and snail mail it!

Book Swap Party
I was planning on not making a big deal out of it, but when I started going through my books (which happen to live in the MP room) I found a few things I couldn’t resist. (including THIS pin on pinterst)
Book Swap Party

This is a book I bought when I lived in China. I had intentions of hanging up some of the pictures, but never got around to it. Obviously, I can’t read the book, so I didn’t feel too bad ripping out pages! I have twine laying around. I used a sharpie to write letters on the pages and the folded the page over the twine and taped… super easy. (FYI: sharpie bleeds, put something under your book pages)

Book Swap Party

Voila!

Book Swap Party
I took the empty white frame off of the hallway gallery wall, and printed up a  “& I can not lie” sign. The crepe paper flowers and felt flowers were from the beach inspired baby shower and the felt garland was free gift wrap supplies from Anthropologie a few years ago. The giant clothespins are all over my house and the books, well, they’re the party swag!

I rearranged a few things to make a cozy seating nook and stole the lamp from my blogging desk. The rug is from my bathroom… I don’t buy stuff, I just move it around so it looks new :) I rearranged the coffee table too… I put my alteredscrapbooks books out just for fun.

Don’t worry, I did not forget about the cookies :) I used my favorite homemade, hand cut letters for a cookie sign!

I had a pink, plastic Ulta bag in the recycle bin and decided to make a festive little pom pom.

Of course, I had to have bags for guests to bring their cookies home in :) I made these with PSA Stamps and a Martha Stewart paper cutter.

The little book page streamers hanging from the bar were a last minute touch, but it was SO easy and free… I had to do it.

I had just printed a few pics from the 30th B-day. They were laying on the bar for days weeks… As I was picking up for ABC Party, I threw the pics in the Silhouette enhanced yum jar and called it a day. I like it! I think they are staying there for awhile!

After all of this, I couldn’t leave out the the other side of the room… I whipped out the DIY garlands I made for a friend’s surprise B-day a few years ago… I pulled the white crate in front of the fire place out of the laundry room to hold more books! It’s all about using what you’ve got :)

I ended up giving away these sticks also made for the surprise b-day a few years ago…this time I called them bookmarks and let them live in the log on the bar!

Wow. picture throw up…sorry about that and the whole not making a big deal out of it didn’t really work out for me! But, what can I say…I LOVE Creating Really Awesome Free Things! And one last picture of a few of the wonderful ladies that attended!

ABC Party

I’m posting about the treats I made for this soiree next week.  Have you ever hosted a book swap or a cookie swap or a combo? You should totally do it. Or any other swap for that matter? I love the idea of a clothing swap!   When the parties over, you can donate all the books or clothes to charity… works out well for everyone.

p.s. this is the last post this week… I hope y’all have a delicious Turkey Day with family and friends :) and just know that I am thankful for each of you for taking your time to read my crafty non sense I call my life!
