Smoothie Connoisseur

Check out what I call greatness in a glass…
I am a smoothie connoisseur. I make them all. the. time. and prefer Greek yogurt to regular ol yogurt.  Which is exactly why I decided to partner with Dannon!  Today I am going to share my secrets :) (Just to be fair, the BF invented some of these secrets! )

Secret #1: Greek Yogurt–I have recently discovered Dannon Oikos Greek Yogurt. It’s creamier and thicker than regular yogurt, which makes for better smoothie consistency. (I’ve tried lots of kinds!) Dannon® Oikos® is created through an authentic Greek straining process which gives it the creamy-thick texture. Dannon® Oikos® Plain and Fruit on the Bottom contains 0% fat. The yogurt is an excellent source of protein, twice that of most regular low fat yogurts. I usually buy a quart of the vanilla… but, this time I used the 5.3 oz container to test out the honey stuff :) (see secret #4)

Secret #2: Frozen fruit– It never goes bad. And it replaces ice, which I think wears out my hand mixer. It makes the smoothie process take a lost less time too.
Secret #3: Juice– any kind. it really doesn’t matter…you just need a liquid to make it the right consistency.
Secret #4: Agave nectar or honey– you will not always need this, but if your smoothie is not sweet enough just add agave nectar or honey. Works like a charm. I did not need it this time because my yogurt had honey included :)
Secret #5: You can add anything as long as you have one banana, Greek yogurt, juice, and frozen fruit. (carrots, spinach, kale, celery, obviously any non frozen fruit…)

Here was yesterday’s masterpeice… (that’s All Bran, wheat buds cereal on top) I just feel like it adds a little more goodness and crunch!

Are you smoothie maker? How do you feel about frozen fruit v. non frozen fruit? Do you add anything else to your smoothies? Have you ever tried Oikos Greek yogurt? Do you like Greek yogurt better than regular yogurt?

Psst… This is my smoothie making device… KitchenAid KHB300WH Hand Blender, White

(The BF’s dad gave it to us…I could not live without it!)

  1. I just started using honey flavored greek yogurt in my smoothies last week, and I agree that it works so much better than normal yogurt! You get a smoother texture, and you don't need to add extra honey to sweeten it.

  2. I like to add dry oats and/or flax. Delish.

  3. I love plain greek yogurt and as for smoothies, I always add a tablespoon or two of coconut oil.

  4. I HAVE GOT to try that! It looks delicious…. AND healthy!

  5. I love smoothies, I love Greek yogurt, and I just recently tried Dannon Oikos and loved that too!

  6. I love Greek yogurt in smoothies! I recently discovered that and coconut milk in my smoothies!

  7. I recently purchased a nutribullet from a yardsale. I’m in love! But I haven’t really figured out what I’m supposed to be trying to accomplish with it. I’ve been eating low carb for the past year and have lost weight and feeling so much better without the rice, potatoes, pasta, bread, and of course, junk food. I’ve make a few smoothies with spinach, frozen fruit, yogurt, and protein powder. They’re really good, but I’m afraid they’ll make me gain weight. Any ideas on a good smoothie for weight control?

  8. Looks delish!!! I’ve been trying to eat healthier and I came across this recipe. I was wondering, will water work for the juice? Most juices have so much added sugar… Anyways, I’ll definitely try this one!
