#5: Sesame Seeds

As some of you know, my New Year’s resolution involved herbs and spices… Check it out HERE! It was supposed to be a monthly thing. Month shmonth. I decided to attempt miso cod using THIS recipe from the foodnetwork. The hardest part was finding the miso (my HEB’s does not carry miso!) Just a tip: miso is in the refrigerated section, we finally found it near the eggs and tofu at Sunflower Market

Health benefits of Sesame seeds: great source of manganese, copper,  calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, vitamin B1, zinc and dietary fiber.

I didn’t even know what miso looked like… I was expecting it to be white for some reason (maybe because it says white on the package!)

The BF mixing up the glaze. The glaze consists of miso, brown sugar, sesame oil and mirin (Japanese cooking wine) and brown sugar…

He’s very intense. I made the kale salad, took pictures, and directed the miso cod.

The recipe calls for toasted sesame seeds… super easy to toast em’. Just put them in a pan with nothing for  5 minutes or so… and watch them as they get brown and toasty.

Dinner is served. Miso cod, Uncle Ben’s wild rice, and kale salad. Yum.

I will definitely make the miso cod again. Super easy now that I have the miso in the fridge! Have you ever used miso? Next up, miso soup.

Comments

  1. I've tried kale and grow it every summer but it's always so bitter. is it better to eat when the plant is young? do you know?

  2. How long does miso last in the fridge after being opened?

(That is always my concern with trying new things that cannot be used all at once, I hate waste.)

  3. According to the package it is best used by 3/17/2013! There was a super easy recipe for miso soup that came with it too…I won't waste my miso… that stuff was hard to find :)
