Freshen up your home for fall

Fall is crisp and colorful and cozy… At least, in most parts of the world! Here in Florida, it’s sunny and 85 degrees! It’s my 1st fall here, and I’ve heard we get a few chilly days to whip out the ol’ boots, but either way, I can’t complain. The weather in FL is pretty awesome. Andy calls it W.O.W. weather, an acronym for Window Open Weather. (We like acronyms here!)  Since the weather is not feeling very fall, I decided to freshen up the house with some fall decorating. And a trip to World Market I took…

I took a little road trip down alligator alley, to Naples, for a World Market shopping trip extravaganza. The goal was to be home by 1pm. Oopsie. I spent 4 hours browsing, sampling, smelling (candles), feeling, and chatting (the employees are so nice!) in World Market. They food selection is greatness. Talk about a good place to buy gifts! From individually wrapped dark chocolates to gluten free quinoa, and even organic wine… World Market’s got it! (I may or may not have purchased all of those items I just listed.) I also found out how the fancy bakers make cookies perfectly fit on the side of mugs. (The secret costs $1.48, we can so do this!) Of course, my very favorite thing to shop for is home decor, and World Market’s got us covered. From pillows, kitchen ware, bar stools, candles, rugs, to knobs… I had major knob lust. Seriously, I think every single furntirue item in my house (with knobs), needs new ones. Check these out, you can not deny their cuteness. Knobs are cheap, folks, and they can totally give a price of furniture a new look in minutes!

I couldn’t pass up a pair of owls and the yellow version of the blue and green knobs! I’ve got big plans brewing for the owls. So, what else did I purchase to freshen up the fall decor in Sunny? Great question! Here’s the low down:

fall decorating

1: Pillows: 2- 24 in’ orange velvet pillows that are Andy approved! Orange = fall for me. (if you’re interested, see more about Andy and his pillow preferences here)

2: Knobs: Yellow knobs! I bought them without an exact location in mind, but once I got home and starting sprucin’ up for fall the file cabinet become an obvious perfect spot.

3/4: Baskets: In a small house, baskets make me happy. Texture + function= a smitten me.  Basket #3 houses tons of magazines and books, and basket #4 is filled with blankets! Blankets + books= fall.

5: 3 Frames: Some poeple might not pick turquoise frames as fall decor, but I like a little funk. Fall brings winter, and winter needs spunk. Hello, turquoise frames with summer time memories! You make my heart happy.

6: Yellow floor lamp shade: This might be my favorite purchase… It’s a tough  call between the knobs and the shade. Both purchases made huge impact with little time and money= my very favorite way to decorate.

Are you ready for the big reveal? Confused… OK, are you ready for the big lamp before and after? Here she is, sexier than ever. Yep, I said my lamp is sexy… look at those curves and that bright yellow shade! I might just do a whole post on the lamp makeover (and why my mom is so mad about it), but for now, I just want to share my giant yellow World Market lamp shade excitement and her painted white curves.

I love my new fall nook! This is where you can find me, if I’m not on the computer, in the evenings while Andy watches borring ol’ football or news.

Fall is in the air in casa de Dorobek. I even made a little fall printable that says “happy fall y’all” and framed it one of the turquoise frames from World Market. Y’all reminds me of home, Texas. Here’s a slightly better picture of my super simple printable…
