Jazzing up the pie safe

I scored this pie safe on Craigslist for $200 about a year ago. (FYI: It’s called a pie safe because it has lots of little holes in the sides to let the pies cool!)  I’ve been resisting the urge to paint it because a little natural wood is nice, but it clearly needs some sprucing up. I added fun knobs awhile back, but it’s been begging for a little makeover well, since it arrived in our house! Before I show you what I did, I must share some breaking news: Target sells fabric. Yep. True! And it’s cute and comes in pre cut pieces. (See if you’re Target sales Fabric Loft fabric here.)

Let me just show you what I was working with:

And let’s get right to the good stuff, here’s the after:

It’s a super easy DIY… here are the 2 secret ingredients (besides the cute fabric from Target):

All you do, is cut the piece of fabric to fit the back of your cabinet. Then iron the sides down and use thumb tacks around the edges to tack it to the back of the cabinet. How easy is that? I have a 4 week old, y’all! My craft time just taken over by baby cuddles, poop, and milk! See, the thumb tacks at the top? It’s that easy. When the doors are closed you can’t see them at all.

Oh and see my cute frame that says “J+A= M”? I used some cute Fabric Editions fabric from Target for that too. Another e.a.s.y. craft. I took the glass out of an old frame and wrapped the fabric around the back of the frame. Then used felt to cut out a heart and a few letters and glued them down. So stinkin’ easy. I also just realized that our initials spell JAM and that those are the first 3 letters of my name!
