You know that book, If you Give a Mouse a Cookie? That’s what’s going on in Casa de Dorobek right now. We just bought a new house. And with that came a million things to think about, purchase, and do. Kind of urgent on the list was a washer and dryer. This meant we had to learn about top loaders v. front loaders. And brands? And the best deal? And with that, we learned we had to buy HE (high efficiency) detergent, which we had never had to do before. (More on all of that soon!)
On a health conscious new home owner note, Andy and I try to be healthy. We eat mostly organic. OK, fine we eat organic when it’s convenient and cost effective. We have Teddy Grahams and Oreos in the pantry right now. And we want to have a healthy house. I mean who doesn’t want to have a healthy home? We are planning on buying low VOC paint when we re-paint our home, we use green cleaning products when we can, we have mostly LED light bulbs, and we bought a high efficiency washer and gas dryer to save money on our energy bill. In my brain, it makes sense to want to buy non-toxic, eco-friendly laundry products for the sake of your family’s skin. Here’s what I got: Laundry detergent, stain remover, and laundry dryer cloths.
First thing is first, now that we have a fancy new front loader. We had to make sure that whatever detergent we buy is HE. The Honest Company passed test #1… see the little HE at the bottom of the pretty bottle:
Test #2: Smell. Andy is the one with the extra sensitive sniffer, so I had to let him give the clean laudry a whiff. He said, “It’s a super mild, clean smell. I like it.” The honest laundry detergent is actually unscented, so no worries about crazy smells, Mr. Andy! My nose doesn’t work very well, so I smelled nothing. Passed test #2.
Test #3 is price. Like I said before, who doesn’t want their home and body to be as healthy and natural as possible? But weighing the cost vs. benefit ratio is always a factor in our purchase decision. So, here’s the deal: The Hones Company laundry detergent is $12.95 a bottle and good for 70 HE loads. That’s only $.18 cents a load. I can handle that!
