I was reading my new book before bed, and Andy asked, “what is that stuff?” Well, Andy, it’s “only the greatest decoupage medium on earth!” The he asked, what’s decoupage? At least he is curious about my books, right? Here is the mod podge definition for all the Andy’s who (probably don’t) read C.R.A.F.T.  it’s, “glue that holds tight and dries clear for adhering paper, fabric, and other porous materials to almost any surface”. Basically, it’s a miracle product that’s been sticking for 45 years! Here are 6 of the formulas photographed in the book…mod podge book review

Here are 3 of my favorite craft projects from Mod Podge Rocks… This one is for my inner nerd. This project is done with paint and fabric on glass plates! mod podge rocks review

I like the idea of fancy-ing up a  step stool. Those things aren’t usually so cute, but super useful for high cabinets and closet shelves! Amy used wrapping paper and the hard coat mod podge formula for this project.

And my 3rd favorite project is the glowing mummy hand candy bowl… sounds scary, right? It’s the perfect candy bowl for Halloween.

Extra Special Book Review: Mend it Better

I have some pretty earth shattering news over here. OK, fine… maybe not earth shattering, but exciting for me! My name and this C.R.A.F.T. are in this book, Mend It Better!

Awhile back Kristin posted about her book in progress on her blog, Craft Leftovers, and asked for unique mending submissions. I submitted my one and only mending trick that I learned in China. Low and be hold… she liked it and decided to use it in her book! I filled out a little submission form, sent Andy’s and I’s mended jeans to a publisher to be photographed, and here they rest forever, published in a pretty cool book all about creative mending solutions!

Here’s my name! And Andy’s jeans are the ones that made the book…

The book is full of great ideas, craft projects, and of course mending solutions… This project discusses how to add pockets to anything. In my crafty opinion, pockets make everything better, and I never knew how easy it was to add them.

Check out this tip for sewing holes in leather. It’s a sneaky stitch that on the outside, shows only 2 neat rows of stitches.

Zippers have always been a problem for me. I’m going to read and re read these pages about sewing in zippers.

I’ve always wondered about when to use a single or double thread and if you’re supposed to knot the thread or not…

I love history and really enjoyed the tid bits of history throughout the book about mending…

And here is my name again… with the blog! You have no idea how excited this makes me :)

Have you ever wondered about the evolution of sewing, what the heck darning is, or possibly, the proper way to secure a thread? This book has answers baby! I guarantee that all crafters would enjoy this gem of a book.
Thank you, Kristin, for all of your hard work on this book and for allowing me to be a small part of it!
ps in other earth shattering news… we are getting married on 2-22-2012 :) (yep, that’s tomorrow!)

Bakerella

I met Bakerella! (AKA Angie Dudley)
Bakerella
Everyone was able to sit down, ask her questions, take pictures, get their book signed (and point at her cute gold bow ring)! I scared her with my pointing she thought she messed up my name!
 Bakerella
I went with Rachelle who was wearing gold bow earrings and naturally got really excited when I saw Bakerella wearing a gold bow ring… it looked a lot like this one:

I’ve had a thing for knots and bows since THIS post back in May of 2010.
I was able to ask Angie 2 questions:
1: Do you run your blog on your own? Yes she does. She also has a full time job as a graphic designer… Here schedule consists of her day job Monday- Friday, baking on Saturday, Blogging on Sunday. Oh yea, she has a book, a cake pop kit, and note cards, and does book signings on the weekend. AND she just launched a new site called cakepop.com. Whoa. Talk about an amazingly creative, super busy woman! Makes me feel a little lazy!
2: Where did you come up with the name Bakerella? Angie said, “Everyone thinks it has to do with Cinderella, but actually it comes from Barbarella.” Angie wanted an anonymous name, like Jane Doe, to bake behind. She likes Jane Fonda and briefly thought about using Jane Fondant, but did not want to limit herself to fondant only.  I had never heard of Barbarella (gasp if you may, but I am not a movie buff!)

Annie couldn’t make it, so her sister saved the day…

After the book singing we walked next door to Anthropologie… another creative wonderland. Check out the use of crushed cans as a wall display:

Book page trees, cute with pinking shears and stacked on dowels:

Another good Christmas present for the crafty friend in your life, Design Sponge at Home :)
This post turned into a mini gift guide for all the crafty ladies in your life. Let’s recap: Cake Pop Book or kit, gold bow rings or earrings, monogrammed, book page ornaments, and Design Sponge at Home Book! Women are so much easier to buy for. Do you agree? Do you have a go to dad/boy/brother gift? I made a guy gift guide last year that has some easy-ish ideas!  Are you cake pop maker? Do you have a favorite combo? I’ve made a few, and ate a lot…
