I live in Austin, TX with my husband and son. I graduated form the University of Texas in 2006 with a degree in Psychology. Then moved to NYC to teach gymnastics and wait tables. I decided it was time to get a real job, and after teaching private gymnastics lessons to autistic kiddos, I realized it was fun and I was good at it. So I moved back to Texas, got certified to teach special education, and taught as a high school inclusion teacher for 4 years in Austin,TX. In the midst of that, I decided to go back to school for a masters in educational administration. That’s right as of December 2011, I am certified to be a principal in the state of Texas! Andy proposed towards the end of grad school, we moved to Florida for his job (tips on packing for free and hosting a packing party), and I decided it was time to take this blog thing seriously minus that fact that I just spent 2 years in school and teaching full time to become a principal. Oh silly life. We lived a 5 minute walk from the beach in Florida for one year and then high tailed it back to Texas where, fingers crossed, we stay put for a little bit. But the word adventure gets up pretty excited, so you never know!
We got married in our living room on 2-22-2012 with 4 guests. Lots more on that here, thank you cards, changing your last name, and the super simple wedding scrapbook. I owned my first home, a tiny condo, in Austin and we lived in a rental apartment in Ft. Lauderdale. We just bought our first house together in Austin. (House hunting in Austin is crazy town: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.) And in March 2014, our lives were forever changed with the wonderful addition of a little bambino! No matter where we live or what we live in, I want our house to feel like home and scream us. I happily embrace the challenge of change and over share all the deets here on C.R.A.F.T.!
Creating with freebies has been happening since I can remember. I grew up with a wonderfully crafty mom who would take me to Good Will and garage sales to my little heart’s content. The free part is easy when you are a kid with no money! Check out my fancy college decor and zebra corn lamp. I discovered blog world while reading family blogs, and came across one with links to craft blogs. I was hooked. Seriously, I started C.RA.F.T. the day after I saw my first craft blog (Ucreate). Like I said above, I was a teacher and Andy did not get home until 7, so from 4-7 I was well, bored. Cooking and me aren’t that great of friends (minus the crock pot), and I was already crafting so I utilized that time to document the crafts that were already happening!
I’ve grown and changed a lot as a blogger, writer, and (pseudo) photographer, but my love for DIY-ing with freebies has never changed. I’ve always loved acronyms, and C.R.A.F.T. (Creating Really Awesome Free Things) fit perfectly! It was one of those “aha!” moments. The “C” first stood for crafting, but soon changed to creating… I wanted to leave the doors open to creating trips, parties, recipes, or whatever else pops up! I’ve been blogging and loving it since February 2010.
