5 Pinterest Tips

We love Pinterest. There is no doubt it’s addicting, inspiring, and an awesome tool for bookmarking great ideas on the web. I spend lots of time here, and I’ve learned 5 tricks I want to share to make your boards prettier and easier for others to find.

The 5 Tips:
  1. Edit board cover picture
  2. Add your blog to your about statement
  3. Edit the description for each of your boards
  4. Edit the category of all of your boards
  5. The activity button
1. Editing board cover picture. You can change the cover picture of all of your boards. I chose pictures that were clean, simple, and felt really represented my idea of the board.
Here’s a close up…

Here is how you change the cover picture… Roll your cursor over the board and you will see the “Edit board Cover” button pop up. Click it.

This will pop up, and you can flip through your board to see what picture fits the cover best. Make sure to click “Set Cover” when you’ve found the one!
2. Add your blog to your about statement. The about statement is what shows up your home page. My home page is:  https://pinterest.com/craft/ My about statemnt says, “Hi! I’m Jamie from C.R.A.F.T. I Create Really Awesome Free Things for your home, wardrobe, kitchen, and kids. Check out the site: http://www.creatingreallyawesomefreethings.com/”
Click the “edit profile” button.
This will pop up. Fill in the “About” section. I changed my last name and location too : )
3. Edit the description for each of your boards.  My description says the same thing for almost all of my boards, “Hi! I’m Jamie from C.R.A.F.T. This is one of the many places I collect ideas to attempt to Create Really Awesome Free Things for your home, wardrobe, kitchen, and kids. If you like this board, check out the site: http://www.creatingreallyawesomefreethings.com/”
I share a board with Annie (JamAnn) and I gave that one a unique description to help describe what the heck we pin in there…
 4. Edit the category of all of your boards. There are lots of categories to chose from. If you search for DIY & crafts, and you’re board is categorized as DIY & crafts, people will be able to find your board faster.

5. The activity button. I use this 2 ways.

1) This sometimes helps me decide if I want to follow someone… I like to make sure they are an active pinner! You can also see who someone has recently followed, what that person commented on, and how many times a pin as been re pinned.

2) I like to use my own activity button to see how many times a pin I pinned has been re pinned or commented on (say that 3 times fast!) This pin, about the annoying stickers on apples has been re pinnned 33 times in 2 days. This was re pinned 18 times in 2 days. By knowing what people are re pinning, I can get a better feel for what people like in the moment.

I hope that was helpful, and not already stuff everyone knew! I learned some of these tips from clicking around and some from reading the Pinterest blog

If you like the blog, you’ll love my pins :) Follow me on Pinterest. If you need an invite, leave your e-mail in the comments and I will send you one!
