3 Tricks Thursday: Airplane Outfit

Surprise, I’m back! I did this one pre scheduled post since it goes along with the travel theme… What to wear on an airplane? This isn’t exactly 3 separate tricks, but it’s one big one. What to wear on the airplane can be a major dilemma… espeically on long flights! Or at least for me! You want to look cute, be comfortable, and be prepared for uncontrollable temperatures. Here is my perfect airplane outfit and why…

airplane outfit for womenOutfit explanation:

  • Skinny jeans with stretch are essential. I used to wear regular pants and roll up the bottoms when I went to the bathroom. I was forever (rest of the travel day) disgusted if the bottoms of my pants touched the bathroom floor! It’s gruby, and totally avoidable with the skinny jeans trick. My airplane skinny jeans must include a little stretch. I like to fold my feet in chairs, and no stretch does not allow this to happen.
  • Cozy t-shirt. I like one that’s a little baggy and a little longer in the back than the front to cover up the bootie in the e skinny jeans. Slighty baggy + cotton= cozy.
  • Scarf. I get cold on planes and in airports.  OK, fine… I’m cold in general : ) The scarf can stay around my neck or wrap around my body in my seat. Versatilityis key.  I don’t get on planes without a scarf.
  • Slip ons. 2 words: airport security. And I like to take my shoes off on planes, but want easy access to slip them on for a bathroom run. Toms or ballet flats are my plane shoe of choice.
  • Long Champ travel bag. It folds up tiny, so if you decide you don’t need it on the way home, just fold it up and throw it in your suitcase. It fits perfectly under plane seats, and holds plenty of magazines, snacks, and other plane goodies. You can get the Long Champ bag here or here is a more reasonable priced version of a similar bag on Amazon. *the 2nd link is an Amazon affiliate link

What do you think of my airplane outfit? Are you a pant roller up too? What do you wear when you travel? Do you have any air plane rituals? I make it a point to buy airplane treats (tail mix, almonds, york peppermint patty) at the grocery store before I travel. Cheaper and ensures I get exactly what I want. Happy summer travels.

Comments

  1. Love the outfit and YES I wear my skinnys rolled up too… Actually mine look like the same as yours! Free people? :) Love the Longchamp bag… Great post!

  2. Love the scarf!! And Toms are my favorite shoe to wear while flying!

  3. Great outfit and I love that bag! Excellent point about the bathrooms. I honestly never gave that much thought…now I will! I should say though that I pretty much avoid public bathrooms at all costs and I’ve never used one on an airplane (even flying to France!). Oh and Trader Joe’s trail mix is a must for any airplane adventure in my book.

  4. Ohhh Toms! I love them Navy Blue Toms! And that bag…AWESOME! We have a roadtrip coming up so I am very into “travel suggestions” at the moment. Hope you had fun!

  5. Ooo that bag is great! I’m more of a maxi dress or leggings/tunic traveler. No jeans for me…even with stretch I don’t want to deal with them for a whole flight!

  6. An empty water bottle is essential. You can’t take liquids thru security but you can fill a bottle up after you are through. With water bottles costing $3 or more in the airport this is such a money saver for my family.

  7. Hey thank you so much for sharing your travel tip…in about two weeks m traveling ,and m really open to travel suggestions.i believe i travelling light.

  8. I always wear flip flops and skinny jeans in the airport for the same reason! They are just comfy and it is easy to take the shoes off for security :)

  9. Love the scarf idea…I’m always cold, too. I usually wear cozy shoes but was glad I switched out to my Vibram 5fingers in the airport because my feet were cold…we were held up on the tarmac taking off and lading, so I had to sprint through 2concourses in Atlanta last week to make my connection.
